Joey’s Chefs in the Corridors (and Kitchens) of Power!
At the invitation of the Minister for Children, the members of the Joey’s Cookery Club took a trip to Dáil Éireann where they presented the Minister with a Great Joey’s Cookbook and a basket of freshly baked cakes and breads straight from the recipe book! Mr. Andrews was joined by Mr. Haughey and both ministers congratulated the boys on their wonderful achievement. The boys also met with local T.D. Finian McGrath and spotted a number of other high-profile politicians including a very worried looking Minister for Finance!
With due respect to the politicians the highlight of trip was, as befits budding chefs, the tour of the Dáil kitchens. Thanks to Dail chef Tony O’Brien, (Loughlan’s Dad and, incidentally, a former Joey’s pupil himself), the boys had lunch in the Dáil restaurant and then toured the kitchens and learned a lot about life behind the scenes in a busy restaurant.
Thanks to all concerned for a wonderful, educational opportunity.
